Resources

Option ONE:

Everybody Welcome

Everybody Welcome is a complete course to help equip your church to improve your approach to newcomers.

In five teaching sessions it will help you review your attitudes to newcomers, learn new approaches, and identify areas of improvement and change.

Everybody Welcome is a resource from the Church of England, a link to their website is below, where you can purchase copies of the book and other resources in the series, as well as download resource sheets.

Option TWO:

Grove

Juggling with books, not knowing when to sit or stand, being glared at for sitting in the wrong seat – for many people, their first visit to a church service is about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist. But why do churches become so unfriendly, and how can we create a culture of welcome?

Creating a Culture of Welcome is a short study guide which looks at the reality of people’s experience, the roots of any problems, and offers workable strategies for bringing about a change in church culture. It includes a ‘welcome audit’ that can be copied and used, and supporting material on the Grove web site to help tackle this crucial issue.

Option THREE:

Purpose Driven Church

Written from a more evangelical perspective, Purpose Driven Church contains many helpful practical suggestions about how to improve the welcome of your church.

Unlike the other suggested resources Purpose Driven Church is not a course book, but contains many different ideas and suggestions about how to improve your church’s welcome. In this regard Parts Two and Three are probably the most relevant.

Part Two: Becoming a Purpose Driven Church

Part Three: Reaching Out to Your Community

Child Friendly Church Award

Children and Youth Development Officer – Leo Roberts, says,

Leo

“A Child Friendly Church is an all-age church – welcoming and safe, for people whatever their age.       A church doesn’t even need to have children to be a child friendly church – it’s about the right attitude, not the right organisations. Gaining this award may be just one of the steps towards your church becoming Radically Welcoming.”
